Product Description

philosophy: what would it be like to have unblemished skin? well, there is no such thing. if skin were that perfect, then it wouldn't be real, and you are real, we are sure of that. instead of focusing on what's wrong, focus on what's right.

acne is a genetic condition that can stay with you for the rest of your life. quite simple, acne occurs when the shedding process of dead cells in the hair follicle goes awry. instead of mixing with sebum in the sebaceous gland and being washed out through the pores, the follicle produces cells that stick together, mix with oil, and cause a bacterial reaction which results in at its mildest, a clogged pore and at its most extreme, a cyst. philosophy has a four-step program for treating acne. suppress oil production, shed the pore wall, help sanitize the skin to protect against bacteria and seal the skin to help keep the good treatments in and the bad elements out.

2 out of 5 stars If you are going to spend $50 -- Go with PROACTIV instead   November 9, 2008

I am in my late twenties and started breaking out around my jawline and cheeks. I love Philosophy products so after researching what was out there I decide to try the Philosophy acne kit.

--------------------------------
On a Clear Day Super Wash (3 stars): not bad but I think Aveeno's Clear Complexion Cleansing line works about the same for less.

Clear Day Blemish Serum (2 stars): You can feel this working. There is definitely a sting but causes redness and left me with acne scars. Boo!

On a Clear Day Hydrogen Peroxide Cream (4.5 stars): Love this stuff. It leaves your face nice and soft in the mornings. I actually stopped using the serum and placed the cream on my acne and got better results. It slowly brought my monster zit down. Knowing what I do now, I would probably buy this on it's own.

On a Clear Day Protection Cream (1 star): I have no idea if this actually works. Applying it on my face did not help me from future break outs.

Overall the Philosophy Acne Kit help treat my acne but not prevent it.
--------------------------------

A couple days ago my co-worker game me a sample of PROACTIV cleanser and lotion. Even after my first use, my monster zit dramatically went down and nearly gone after three days. I was a real skeptic of Proactiv with all the celebrity spokespeople but what an amazing product line!!! If you are going to spend $47 on the Philosophy Acne Kit, spend an extra couple more dollars for Proactiv. Some Malls have the Proactiv machines so you can save on S&H if you can find one.

3 out of 5 stars Dried out my combination skin!   October 27, 2008
Ann (California)
I was looking for an acne treatment kit the sporadic adult acne breakouts I've been suffering from for the past 3 years and saw that Philosophy had one, so I eagerly wanted to try it out since I was getting great results already with my Purity face wash and Hope in a Jar.

Switching from Purity and Hope in a Jar to this acne kit dried out my skin entirely. I have combination skin and although the box indicates it's good for oily skin, I asked a Sephora clerk who said that it should be fine for my combination skin. Using all 4 products together really made my face scaly and blotchy, not to mention, I started breaking out! I started using just the face wash alone from this kit and after a day or two, noticed that my skin didn't improve, so I stopped the face wash and used the H2O2 treatment, but still my skin stayed bad. I altogether stopped the kit and went back to Purity and Hope in a Jar, and not only did my skin get back to normal and healthy, but I stayed clear from break-outs. I have to say though, that at the same time I used Murad's Spot treatment, which, although pricey, is my new go-to acne spot treatment!

It's been 4 weeks, but my skin has finally recovered from this acne kit. I think it's a really good kit for people that are true "oily" types, but for those who have combination skin like I do, don't try it, it will just dry you up and make things worse!

I suggest trying the Murad Acne Spot Treatment along with philosophy - purity made simple - high-foaming daily cleanser and Philosophy Hope in a Jar if you have acne issues because even though they are not specifically for acne, they work!

4 out of 5 stars It works!   August 29, 2005

I used this kit previously, only before they used to have a retin-a cream and the products were packaged differently. It worked quite well before. I developed mild acne again (uneven skin surface and small bumps), and decided to shell out the money to get this treatment. After just 2 days I am already noticing a big difference. I'd previously been usuing Proactiv, and that never worked as well as this. I suppose it might depend on what your skin is used to. Benzoyl peroxide treatments work ok for me, but my skin seems to be responding better to the AHA's in the Philosophy products. It seems quite pricey, moreso than your regular drugstore products. But it's very effective and will last a while if you use it sparingly, which is all you need daily. I love philosophy products and would definitely recommend this kit to anyone. I think after I finish this kit, I'll try the microdelivery peel. I gave it 4 stars b/c I just started using this new version, but I am very satisfied with the results at this point.

I had used Proactiv for many years and liked it, but was curious to see if there was anything new that could be just as good, or better (and gentler). I was excited to try this Philosophy kit. What a disappointment!

I used it for 2 weeks and my skin got worse, breaking out in places I usually don't break out (like my forehead and chin, with lots of little pimples). I contacted their customer services and was told the "purging" process (which they never advertised) would take a week or 2. Well, after 2 weeks, I stopped using the product and am now back to Proactiv, hoping to reverse the damage I got from this Philosophy kit.

I AM A DEVOTED PHILOSPOHY USER, SO WHEN MY SON DEVELOPED ACNE I DECIDED TO BUY THIS KIT FOR HIM. AFTER JUST ONE APPLICATION THE REDNESS AND SWELLING STARTED GOING AWAY! HE USED IT AT NIGHT AND WHEN HE AWOKE THE NEXT MORNING, WAS AMAZED AT THE RESULTS! WE DABBED SOME OF THE SYRUM ON PROBLEM AREAS AND WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I CANNOT RECOMMEND PHILOSOPHY ENOUGH TO FRIENDS AND FAMILY! WITH THE RESULTS HE CONTINUES TO GET, HE DOESN'T MIND THE 4 STEP PROCESS! WE HAD TRIED OTC MEDICINES BUT THIS BY FAR HAS WHAT IT TAKES! THANK YOU PHILOSOPHY FOR ANOTHER GREAT PRODUCT KIT!
